This space will be used for news about ongoing SKEA projects, research ideas and short essays about ceramics and ceramics analysis. It is my hope that the readers may be inspired to read and work more with this broad, rich and complex mass material. The language will be English as a practical common denominator.
I will write about pottery and technical ceramics – i.e. crucibles, moulds, furnace walls and the like – but also on occasion about mortar. The latter is an interesting complex material akin to pottery in several ways although fundamentally different.
Grog – old crushed pottery used as temper in new pots – is a fascinating subject it that it ties generations of pots together and gives us another type of chronological depth potentially rich in information about craft tradition.
Different craft methods may also come up as subjects.
